Google Earth is available for Desktop, Web and Mobile Android and iOS devices. You can easily navigate with your fingers, to move the globe, rotate to zoom in and out, rotate your viewpoint and tilt your view. The new 3D imagery lets you explore the complete 3D recreations of select cities, including San Francisco, Boston, Rome and others. The new Tour Guide allows you to easily discover exciting new places to explore and offers a selection of virtual tours from around the globe. Its Earth Gallery offers exciting maps such as real-time earthquakes, planes in flight, hiking trails, city tours, and more. You can browse layers including roads, borders, places, photos and more. It has integrated Google Maps Street View that allows you to explore the world at street level. Google Earth: Explore the planet with this app.Here’s a list of 7 great Social Studies apps for teachers and students: Studying Social Studies with such interesting and engaging apps helps students enhance their learning of the subject and have fun at the same time. The site is conveniently broken down by grade levels to make differentiation easier.Social Studies apps personalize learning by allowing students to go through the content at their own pace, explore areas that interest them, and practice recalling facts to strengthen their knowledge. Garden of Praise – Biographies for Kids – This website includes biographies of tons of important individuals from history written specifically for kids. Then, within the continent map, they can click on each country name and be taken to a country specific map with information about that specific country. If they click on a continent, they will be taken to a continent specific map as well as information about that specific continent. In fact, I wrote an entirely separate blog post about Time for Kids awhile back, but it is a worthy addition to this list as well.ħ.) World Atlas – This website provides an amazing interactive atlas. is a great source for Social Studies class. A perfect website to include in a unit on Maps & GlobesĦ.) Time for Kids – An online newspaper for kids with current event articles, videos, photos, etc. This timeline can then be printed and used in class.ĥ.) Google Earth – How helpful is an online interactive globe where you can zoom into mountains, valleys and oceans? So many ways this can be helpful with geography, topography and helping students build a strong base in understanding where history happened and why. This site has games that help students explore ancient history, British history, world wars, and historical figures from tons of different time periods.Ĥ.) Timeline Maker – Generate a timeline with up to twelve events by simply inserting dates and descriptions in chronological order. This is a great place to start students out when working on a research project.ģ.) BBC History for Kids – BBC has amazing educational resources for all subjects, but their history section is particularly fabulous. Each category has tons of links to additional information and subcategories.
